The upcoming iPhone handsets will come with dual rear cameras and dual Optical Image Stabilisation according to a note released by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
Although the current generation devices already have the OIS technology, the upcoming models' telephoto zoom lens will additionally carry its own separate OIS feature, mentioned the report.
Kuo adds that the Cupertino-based tech firm will have to redesign the telephoto zoom lens in order to bring another OIS feature. Apple may also face some challenges in bringing a redesigned telephoto zoom lens. The main challenge will come in the form of more complex assembly processes. The inclusion of a dual OIS might also result in a degraded photo quality around the corners.
"We believe Apple will add OIS function to the telephoto CCM in order to enhance the selling points of next year's new iPhone. We think photo quality and optical zoom range may both improve as a result. We expect the telephoto lens will be redesigned to support OIS in the telephoto CCM, with challenges likely coming from: (1) the need to increase the image circle of the telephoto lens, which will lead to longer calibration time and a more complex assembly processes; and (2) a redesign of the telephoto lens, as an increased image circle will result in degraded photo quality around the corners," said Kuo in his research note obtained by Mac Rumours website.
According to the note, while the rumoured 5.1-inch variant with OLED display and the 5.5-inch version with LCD display will come with dual rear cameras with dual OIS, the new 4.7-inch model with LCD display will sport a single-lens camera. Largan Precision is said to continue as Apple's exclusive partner for 6P Lens and telephoto lens for all the three rumoured variants.
