Apple announces the tenth-anniversary edition of iPhone, iPhone X Iphone-X

The much-awaited Apple iPhone is here. The company has finally launched the tenth-anniversary edition of its iPhone -- iPhone X. Apple iPhone X's price starts at Rs 89,000, the most-expensive price tag for an iPhone so far. The pre-orders for the smartphone will start on October 27 across 55 countries including India. It will hit the retail stores on November 3. This is the first time that the new iPhones will be launching in India in the first wave.

Apple iPhone X comes with Super Retina edge-to-edge display. It has 458 ppi (resolution of 2,436 x 1,125 pixels), the highest pixel density in an iPhone ever. Larger than the all-new iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X comes with a 5.8-inch OLED screen. This is the first time that an iPhone sports an OLED display. The HDR display supports Dolby Vision and HDR10.

The iPhone X comes with an all-glass front and back. It features what Apple claims is "the most durable glass ever in a smartphone in silver or space gray, while a highly polished, surgical-grade stainless steel band seamlessly wraps around and reinforces iPhone X. A seven-layer color process allows for precise color hues and opacity on the glass finish, and a reflective optical layer enhances the rich colors, making the design as elegant as it is durable, while maintaining water and dust resistance."

Courtesy, the edge-to-edge display, iPhone X bids good bye to the key feature of all the iPhones launched so far, Home Button. It also introduces facial recognition-powered FaceID to iPhones. This FaceID replaces the finger-print based TouchIDs that made their debut in iPhones in 2013 with iPhone 5S. Apple claims that FaceID is powered by TrueDepth camera system on the front. This is based on multiple neural networks for real-time face recognition. According to the company, FaceID only unlocks iPhone X when customers look at it and is designed to prevent spoofing by photos or masks. FaceID can also be used to authenticate Apple Pay payments.

At the bottom of the display are flashlight and Camera app shortcuts. iPhone X also introduces a new gesture language, wherein users need to swipe up to go home. Users can say 'Hey Siri' or press the larger side button to call Siri. Users need to simply tap on the screen to wake it up.

On specifications front, the smartphone is powered by the company's A11 Bionic chip. It features a dual 12-megapixel rear camera system with dual optical image stabilization. There's f/1.8 aperture on the wide-angle camera and an f/2.4 aperture on the telephoto camera. There are also new color filters and an improved Apple-designed image signal processor that is claimed to deliver advanced pixel processing, wide color capture, faster autofocus in low-light and better HDR photos. Another addition is a new quad LED True Tone Flash offering twice the uniformity of light and includes Slow Sync. The smartphone comes in two storage variants -- 64GB and 256GB.

Apple also launched two other iPhone models at the event. Called Apple iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. Both the new iPhones will come in two storage variants - 64GB and 256GB. Users in select countries, including India, can pre-order the two smartphones starting September 15. The smartphones will be available in India from September 29 at a starting price of Rs 64,000.

Apple iPhone 8 includes a 4.7-inch Retina HD screen, while the bigger variant comes with 5.5-inch Retina HD screen. The key highlight of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus is their design. The smartphones run on the company's latest 10nm A11 Bionic chipset with a 6-core processor. It is claimed to be 70% faster than A10, which powers the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus.

All the new additions to the company's iPhone lineup were unveiled at an event held in Steve Jobs Theatre in Apple's new Spaceship campus in California.
